The Disability Leadership Roundtable Series is designed to stimulate discussion on selected
controversial leadership related themes. The theme for Roundtable # 6 is:
“INCLUSIVELY, SHAMELESSLY, DISABLED”
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT? CAN LANGUAGE CREATE A VISION?
WHAT ARE YOU HEARING? WHAT ROLE DOES MEDIA PLAY IN
SPREADING THE VISION? ARE THE SOCIAL AND MEDICAL
MODELS OF DISABILITY LIMITING DISCUSSIONS?
If you are involved in disability, consume media and are interested in how social change
might happen through language, media and a new way of thinking and promoting
disability, this is a MUST for you. We’ll discuss images of disability, the power of media
and the language of the mainstream. We will view images, decipher their power and add
our voices to the debate, and then we’ll use the media to get our discussion out.
Erin McCuskey & friends will moderate a discussion in the “SBS Insight” style.
