THE BOLDNESS CO-HOST WINS YOORELLA AWARD
|
|

“I’m stunned” says Phineas Meere”
Phineas Meere, co-host of 3CR's The Boldness has accepted the first
Yoorella Media award for Best Current Affairs Reporter, in honour of
his exploratory interview with Paralympian Hannah McDougal.
The Yooralla Media Awards recognise reporting across all media,
challenging stereotypes unfairly defining people with disabilities.
Awards are given for coverage that accurately, positively and
sensitively portrays the achievements of people with a disability and
the myriad of issues they face.
Phins initial reaction upon receiving the award was disbelief. “I’m
staggered. I didn’t even know I was nominated,” he says, tongue firmly
in cheek. “I’m thrilled to receive it. It was judged by my peers. It's
a vindication of what we at The Boldness do.”
The Boldness is a radio program airing on the third and fifth
Wednesdays of the month. “People with disabilities have to put on a
loud, aggressive front in order for their voices to be heard,” Phineas
explains. “The Boldness is a reflection of this.”
I should also thank Alex Grantham, The Boldness' former producer and
former acting Grit General Manager who entered the interview in these
awards. I'd also like to thank my co-host Paul Gianni for being great
to work with, and making interviewing people easy and Pete Johnstone
and the rest of the Boldness Team.”
Ironically, as Phin walked on stage to receive the award, he was also
being broadcast on 3CR as part of a 12 hour marathon raising awareness
for International Day of Persons with Disabilities . “It's perfect
timing,” Phin jokes “they are airing repeats of my interviews as we
speak. I am in two places at once.”

No
Limits Wins Big at the 2009 Antenna Awards!

It was community television’s night of nights, complete
with fashion, chandeliers, appetizers that looked too decorative to eat
and pointy glass awards that could have doubled as lethal weapons!
No Limits was well represented with two tables of
enthusiastic
cast, crew, staff and board members, right up front,
cheering for the show’s success as we won the sought after awards of
Outstanding Interview Program, and Outstanding Male Presenter
(congratulations Steve Hurd!).

“What a fabulous result for us,” says Erin McCuskey,
producer of No Limits. “Recognition and comparison to other mainstream
shows for a change, not just up against other shows ‘about disability’.
And the competition was fierce - there were some good shows out there -
which just highlights how far we have come in terms of our production
values, our stories and our purpose.”
Of course, special congratulations
must go out to No Limits host Steve Hurd, who was, very
unfortunately, too sick to attend on the night. Let’s hope discovering
that he’d beaten the competition out of the water aided a quick
recovery!

And since the official televised broadcast of the night
was sadly lacking and incomplete without a speech from our daring
Hurdini, Steve has sent us a taste of the speech that would have been …
“I want to thank Essa, for her creativity, belief in the
Hurdini dream and work. I also want to thank Larry, Colin, Rikki, and
all the off camera doods like Tracy and Rob and all the others; to
Sarah Barton for giving me my first No Limits gig; and, of course, the
board and staff of Grit.
“No, don’t worry, I am not going to thank the Lord and
start crying.
“I want to thank Macca and Sara as well as the other on
camera doods. I want to thank the fish at the aquarium and all the
companies who risked their public liability insurance to let me do
those wild things. I want to thank Hoola Dane, the racehorse I share
ownership of for winning in Sydney the other day as well.”
Congratulations to the No Limits team!
